Clarity in Change: Reflections after a recent event

ree

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to speak and moderate at an event in Zurich amongst practitioners, auditors, advisors, and leaders working at the frontlines of sustainability transformation. It was the first public moment for Tranclarity, and preparing for as well as delivering the session gave me valuable perspectives on what ESG transformation looks like today. Not in theory, but in reality.

The gap between ambition and execution

Listening to the other presenters and the audience discussions, one theme became unmistakably clear: organizations are not lacking ambition when it comes to sustainability. In fact, ambition is often the strongest part of the equation.

What gets in the way is execution.

This mirrors what recent research from UST highlights:

  • 94% of organizations struggle with their sustainability transformation.

  • The biggest obstacles are lack of expertise, insufficient training, data challenges, and, most crucially, unclear strategic direction.

  • Even though most executive teams actively discuss sustainability, fewer than 60% translate it into concrete, shared, actionable plans.

The room at the event confirmed the same reality: leaders want to act, but they are overwhelmed by complexity. And when complexity rises, clarity disappears.

Why clarity matters and how people react to it

My talk ‘Clarity in Change: Leading People and Organizations through ESG Transformation’ focused on exactly that point. What surprised me was how strongly the message resonated.

When I spoke about clarity of purpose, clarity of priorities, and clarity for people, many participants nodded in agreement. It appears that clarity is not a luxury in transformation. It’s the foundation.

The power of conversation

Moderating the event was just as insightful as presenting. During Q&A sessions, participants repeatedly returned to what happened in between the slides, the human aspects:

“How do we get people on board?”

“How do we deal with uncertainty?”

“How do we build confidence for change?”

It confirmed what I experienced in the past. Transformation does not succeed because of a model or a framework. It succeeds because people understand the why, believe in the direction, and feel part of the journey. Clarity is co-created through conversation, not documentation.

Examples, even small ones, matter

During my presentation I shared examples from sustainability, culture, and organizational change. What I noticed afterwards in discussions was that even small, real examples had more impact than any statistics.

The audience connected most strongly when the complexity of ESG became tangible. A team struggling to prioritise, a strategy that no one fully understood, a leader unsure how to communicate uncertainty.

It was a reminder that the future of ESG transformation will be shaped not by frameworks, but by people who know how to lead clarity in ambiguity.

A meaningful milestone for Tranclarity

This event was also personally meaningful. It marked one of the first public steps for Tranclarity. Not as a big launch, but as a quiet, authentic beginning.

Tranclarity exists to bring clarity to complexity. The event affirmed that this is not only needed, but deeply valued.

Preparing, presenting, moderating, and speaking with participants reinforced my belief that sustainable transformation depends on more than reporting, audits, or compliance. It depends on people who can connect strategy, culture, and execution and help others see clearly in moments of change.

Looking forward

Walking away from the event, I felt both energized and grounded. The conversations were honest. The challenges were real. And the appetite for clarity, in sustainability and beyond, was unmistakable.

I look forward to continuing this work through Tranclarity, supporting organizations and leaders as they navigate the complexity ahead, and helping more people discover the confidence that clarity brings.
